There are still people who don't know. It's not so much a problem of the era as of the mindset. If you have an ideology & you're a strong believer, reality doesn't really count that much.
I think going back a couple decades, this may be possible, however when going back 100 years it can be nore of an issue. It's hard to say if she would be content or annoyed with progression since then because so much has changed.
