TEEN MYSTERY
I believe that creating a mystery or crime plot with teenage characters is not an easy task. Miguel Aguerralde managed to do it very well in assembling this novel.
The setting of Lanzarote, with a seaside institute, and the possible rivalries between groups of young people, become the ideal backdrop for Naima and Pau to try to uncover what happened at that end-of-term party, without suspecting that they are about to open more than one Pandora's box.
The way in which both young girls carry out their peculiar investigation stands out positively, and the manner in which, at times even reminiscent of Christie, they uncover the true nature of the always triumphant Ico and the secrets that many of their classmates hide.
The author's pacing is perfectly measured, and he treats us to brief pauses with fragments from the deceased's blog, but these are not gratuitous pauses since these entries also hide her real life, her true dreams. As mentioned earlier, there is no sentimentality in the novel, nor concessions for young people who are about to take the step into a new stage of life. And as a final touch, there are quite a few adults whose behavior should be reevaluated, but who, in any case, confirm what life tends to be like: a garden full of secrets that can sometimes hurt a lot.
Synopsis
On the eve of the Saint John's night, a storm lashes the facade of the Atlante del Sol Institute, located in the south of Lanzarote. Inside, the farewell party prior to the End-of-Term Talent Festival is taking place, to be held the next day. Something has gone wrong: Ico, the star of the festival, is found dead inside the elevator, suffocated by the smoke in a macabre nod to the legend that honors her name. Teachers and students present are marked as witnesses and suspects of what appears to be a terrible crime; however, the case is closed weeks later due to lack of conclusive evidence. The authorities ruled it as an accident. Now, Naima, an aspiring journalist and Ico's classmate, convinced that the pieces do not fit, has decided to resume the investigation and interview all the attendees of the party again until the truth is uncovered.
MISTERIO ADOLESCENTE
Creo que crear una trama de misterio o crimen con personajes adolescentes no es una tarea fácil. Miguel Aguerralde logró hacerlo muy bien al armar esta novela.
El entorno de Lanzarote, con un instituto junto al mar, y las posibles rivalidades entre los grupos de jóvenes, se convierten en el escenario ideal para que Naima y Pau intenten descubrir qué sucedió en aquella fiesta de fin de curso, sin sospechar que están a punto de abrir más de una caja de Pandora.
Destaca positivamente la forma en que ambas jóvenes llevan a cabo su peculiar investigación, y la manera en que, a veces incluso recordando a Christie, van descubriendo la verdadera naturaleza de Ico, siempre triunfante, y los secretos que ocultan muchos de sus compañeros.
El ritmo que el autor impone está perfectamente medido, y nos regala breves pausas con fragmentos del blog de la fallecida, pero no son pausas gratuitas, ya que en esas entradas también se esconde su verdadera vida, sus sueños reales. Como mencionamos anteriormente, no hay sentimentalismo en la novela, ni concesiones para unos jóvenes que están a punto de dar el paso hacia una nueva etapa vital. Y como toque final, hay un buen número de adultos cuyo comportamiento deberían revisar, pero que, en cualquier caso, confirman lo que suele ser la vida, un jardín lleno de secretos que a veces duelen mucho.
Sinopsis de la obra
En vísperas de la noche de San Juan, la tormenta castiga la fachada del Instituto Atlante del Sol, al sur de Lanzarote. En su interior tiene lugar la fiesta de despedida previa al Festival de Talentos de Fin de Curso, a celebrar al día siguiente. Algo ha salido mal: la joven Ico, estrella del festival, es encontrada muerta en el interior del ascensor, asfixiada por el humo en un macabro recuerdo de la leyenda a la que honra su nombre. Profesores y estudiantes presentes quedan marcados a la vez como testigos y como sospechosos de lo que parece un crimen terrible, sin embargo, el caso se cierra semanas después por falta de pruebas concluyentes. Accidente, fue el dictamen de las autoridades. Ahora Naima, aspirante a periodista y compañera de Ico, convencida de que las piezas no encajan, ha decidido retomar la investigación y volver a entrevistar a todos los asistentes a la fiesta hasta dar con la verdad.
