Going full nerd

in #books7 years ago (edited)

Being Tuesday, and an off-day from work, I went to library, because I had a DVD to return there. So I checked if I would've found anything interesting like I usually do whenever I hit there. And I indeed found something interesting.

The first one you can read yourself, but it is an illustrated encyclopedia of... you wouldn't say "Middle-Earth", but I guess "the whole Universe of Tolkien" (Arda, as he named it), because the three books and the movies are only a snapshot of the entirety of what Tolkien came up with. Once upon a time I read the whole deal, LOTR, Hobbit and Silmarillion – the heaviest of them all, which is like a history book more than a novel.

There was a shelf dedicated just for Tolkien stuff. The reason probably being that a Finnish film director Dome Karukoski was behind the Tolkien film biography that is about to come (if hasn't come already) to theaters.

It's pretty cool that a Finn has got his step between a slightly bigger door, since Finnish movie industry isn't that big and big productions are rare, but there are some good films here and there.

This is worth to check just for the art it has.

The other one you can't read, unless you're a Finn, but I'll let you guess what it is about. A clue: What is quite the hot technological innovation right now?

I'll give you few seconds.

It's the Blockchain of course!

The translation of the book would be Blockchain – a roadmap for policymakers. You know, when there's a book in library that says "blockchain", how could I not grab it when it is featured on a shelf just ready to be picked up? :D

And now with a single library visit I managed to get the both ends of the nerdiness spectrum from fantasy to technology. An efficient visit, I would say.

Respect to Finish libraries for having books on blockchain technology!

Yeah! I didn't expect such a nice surprise. It is written by Finns, too!

Niiice finds :) I wanna see the movie too, though I'm skeptical :D enjoy your reading!

Healthy skepticism is not a bad thing to have. I've heard it is a decent one though.

I think the movie came out last Friday. Will you be going to see it?

I will see it at some point for sure, but not in the immediate future, because I have a trip starting in the following week.
