Used to read these stories as a kid, teenager maybe...probably too young to umderstand them or concepts like fate, but I remember enjoying them.

Oh, yes, I've enjoyed them quite a bit too. And it doesn't matter much to understand them if you still enjoyed them.
I think that, taking away the explicit material in some of the stories, they can be entertaining for a young audience. Although I think for many selected stories they sell over there, they remove these parts anyway.
They are definitely quite fun.
