Here are some shots I got on a walk today for this #beautifulsunday and #bouldersunday by @shasta

Here is a moss covered stone that is looking nice an vibrant against the gray leaves.

It is not quite boulder sized but the moss was worth taking a photo of.

These are some limestone boulders randomly laying around. I suspect they were placed there by the farmer who used to own this land that was later turned into a preserve.

Here are a few more boulders that have an orange chalk inside them.

Here's a closeup of the orange chalk. I find bits of this everywhere and it actually works really well for drawing on concrete etc.

Now for some more moss. It is really bright and vibrant in the spring sunlight.

This fuzzy plant was growing out of the moss it almost resembles a lambs ear but the leaves are a bit too thin.

A patch of these flowers was growing in the preserve's woods. The seeds must have found their way from someone's yard for it to be growing wild in the middle of the forest.

Nearby on a dead log I noticed this velvet mite crawling around. They look fake with their bright red color. Someone could make a larger plush toy out of these guys maybe throw pillow sized.

Finally these little yellow flowers were in bloom. Quite a few of them had these neon green wasps on them busy collecting pollen. It was a bit cold out so the wasps were sluggish enough for me to get a few shots of them.
Happy #bouldersunday and #beautifulsunday
thanks for sharing some truly warm and beautiful and moody signs of the spring with me.
If only I brought my macro lens for the mite...
Nice pix but that velvet mite is beautiful I have never seen one of those, it does look fake. Thx for sharing
They are teeny tiny but I see them in the forest in between the bark all the time.
you must have great equipment to capture that detail in such a small bug.
Nice work, cool stuff.
I wish I had my macro lens for it, but this was just my phone that caught it... If I had my macro lens the little velvet hairs would show up much better and it would be much higher res.
Wow your phone, what do you have, I think I need an upgrade
Just a samsung galaxy s8 the newer ones are even better I think its up to s10 now. If you put the camera in professional mode it lets you take better pictures with specific focal ranges. Also I usually put my camera in 4/3 ratio rather than full resolution as it seems to take clearer pictures in that aspect ratio.
The stoned covered with moss has to be quite unique.
I wish I could bring them home and have them grow like that all year but the moss only lasts like that for spring in specific conditions.
I guess it's the humidity
They seem to like a cooler temperature in the 40s to 50s with a dew mist once a day. I once tried to keep a rock like this at home but eventually after a couple weeks the moss dried out even though I misted it. I suspect it was too warm inside for it.
Wonderful photographs and lovely boulders @sketch.and.jam!
That one looked so large until you picked it up, unless you are a giant! :-)
The green bug on the yellow flower is very striking real pretty!
