Everything The Boy Scouts Of America Has Taught Me.

Since I was in the first grade, I was involved in Cub Scouts, as many other boys in my school were. It seemed to me to be a way to make friends and build on relationships I already had established. Through the years of making the pinewood derby cars and the clothesline rocket that I struggled to fix the fins onto, I eventually grew into the Webelos (short for “We Be Loyal Scouts”). There I learned who friends really are. There I learned that friends are those people who truly do stick with you, don’t judge you, really do help you, and love you for who you really are.

No one from my Cub Scout pack has made it all the way with me to the final rank of Eagle, which I find sad in a way but still motivating. I have completed my Eagle project this weekend, December second. My Eagle Project has honestly been one of my most memorable moments of my young life thus far. Making Breakfast for Ronald McDonald House in Chicago Illinois was such a fulfilling experience for me; asking for donations, buying food, preparing food, gathering volunteers, were all important learning experiences for me and I can certainly use them in my future adult life.

All of the skills I have learned in my Scouting career have prepared me for the time of my Eagle Project and it has all payed off. Leadership has been by far the most powerful tool I have learned throughout my whole life. Leadership is the building block and foundation of making everything run smoothly. An operation can not function if the leader cannot lead. Boy Scouts has taught me to be a leader and to lead with love and discernment.

Troop Masters such as my mother, and other parents were influential to my success in my scouting career. Without those people, I would have no one to turn to, no one to fall back on. Parents are there to guide and protect, to help you with your decisions. Without my mother there to push me, I would have no motivation to finish my Eagle Rank. She showed me the value that can come out of such an accomplishment. My friends in the Troop are some of the best people I have ever meet. They have the best personalities I have ever seen and they are so supportive of eachother and I love seeing the positivity that can come out of people. My friends in the Troop have become family and I still keep in touch with those men that have either aged out or achieved their eagle rank as well, simply because they are such great people.

In my opinion, Boy Scouts is the perfect program for a boy to truly find who he is destined to be. Over the last summer camp, I took the Welding Merit Badge course. On the first day of class we read through the merit badge hand book safety section, and picked who would weld on what days. There was only enough time for me to weld after class so I opted to weld after class every day and finish at the end of the week. During the time that I welded I knew that Welding was the career that I wanted to pursue. The instructor said my work was the best she’d seen the whole course of the summer. Without Boyscouts, I would’ve never known what career I would want. Now I am enrolled at Prairie State College and on schedule to accuire my Welding Specialist Certificate by the Fall Semester of 2018.

The Boyscouts Of America has been so unbelievably influential to my success and prosperity, I cannot express how thankful I am for the gift I was given. I greatly recommend the Boy Scouts to anyone who may have a child that is eligible and willing to join. It is inexpensive and it is the most fun I have ever had.
