1. Skipping breakfast increases stress levels

Researchers at the University of California, Davis, found women who skipped breakfast had higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol in their system. When compared to those who ate breakfast, the skippers also had higher blood pressure readings.

The study authors also stated that skipping morning meals regularly combined with long-term stress could increase the risk of cardiometabolic disease in some people.

2. Breakfast reduce chances of fatigue

"Eating breakfast is like starting a fire in your body by kickstarting your metabolism," said Amy Goodson, a dietitian for Texas Health Ben Hogan Sports Medicine.

It is suggested to add protein, slowly digested carbohydrates, and vegetables or fruits with fiber for a healthful, energy-boosting breakfast.

3. Breakfast makes your workout more effective

According to a new study from the University of Bath, England, eating breakfast helps burn more carbohydrates during exercise. It also aided rapid digestion of the food eaten after working out.

"This study suggests that, at least after a single bout of exercise, eating breakfast before exercise may 'prime' our body, ready for rapid storage of nutrition when we eat meals after exercise," said Rob Edinburgh, a Ph.D. student who co-led the study.

4. Short-term memory boost for children

A study that involves more than 300 adolescents found that a healthy-sized, high-energy breakfast could be beneficial when they evaluated immediate recall in short-term memory.

One review of medical literature also discovered that regular eating of breakfast can increase academic performance of children and adolescents.

5. Skipping breakfast can be harmful to heart health

In a study of over 4,000 people, those who ate less than 5 percent of their daily calories at breakfast were 2.5 times more likely to experience hardening and narrowing of arteries (known as atherosclerosis).

Those who skip breakfast are more likely to have a buildup of plaques in their arteries. However, experts believe the effect is an indirect one.
