Have you guys ever wondered why am I focusing on posting clay techniques? The thing is, these are the basic skills one needed in order to succeed in claying.

It does not hurt that you have a lot of tricks up your sleeve as polymer clay market especially the jewelry section is very competitive.

Everyone is always on a lookout for a new technique to create new patterns or textures for their pieces.

So here is Mokume gane.

In a nutshell: it is a Japanese metal smith technique wherein different metals sheets are stacked together and fused through heat.

In the clay version, sheets of clay are stacked and, new patters are created by using different tools. You'll know what I mean.

Let's start by choosing our clay. Now, there is no complements whatever. I want my own unique mokume gane slab so, any color will do.

I used my cookie cutter to create a uniform size for my pieces.

Stack them together and use different tools to create the patterns.

Then you'll have something that looks like this. They are from the same slab. I just cut through them on different lengths. So what is the practical use of this- they use it for jewellry or, veneer or as part of your sculpture. Imagine me creating a dog or a bear with this as the background.

By the way, my previous experience taught me never ever use air dry clay for these techniques. Look at my borgello clay. This one is made of polymer clay technique( the slab on the cutter is my borgello and the one beside is is the original slab).

Just thought I would share it in case you guys are curious about it.
