Storytelling visual - and the story behind it #1: They've stolen storytelling from you, take it back!

For my brand new startup ROTYS -a storytelling workshop and coaching business- I create these visuals (zero cost) for social posts and content. I share the thoughts behind the visuals I create here on Steemit.

Storytelling is a vivid, young industry. Everybody is suddenly looking for 'their story'. What most people know but never think about is the fact storytelling is anything but new.

To go back to the first usage of narratives which were intended to influence (groups of) people, you would have to go back as far as human history goes. The techniques are about just as ancient, throughout history you can find experts describing it. (Aristotle did already during some walks... ;)

As long as mankind can remember, the art of telling impactful stories was for ordinary people. Sure, you had some outstanding storytellers and with their growing crowds (we would say followers) they got themselves a position in society. They became judges or priests or generals. But in every home you could find someone who was skilled in storytelling. Because it was the only way. There were no books yet, no newspapers, no movies and no Steemit. The only way to conserve knowledge for future generations (or for next harvest), the only way to rally masses (or a group of friends), the only way to focus an entire community (or even just a family) on the same goal was by storytelling.

It is only when mass media takes flight that the ordinary man looses his need for storytelling. And with that his interest. And with that the skill. So we are, what, a century further down the lane? And suddenly storytelling is new and happening?

The article that this visual is a header to discusses wether it is smart for businesses to 'leave storytelling up to the professionals'. In my personal opinion, the business (owner) itself should have the storytelling skill, maybe helped out a bit by creatives to enhance its eloquence.

I use unsplash.com for the footage. My skill is copywriting, the shorts are mine. The lay out comes from a simple powerpoint screen, and this (I am zero technical) is just screenshot...

I totally agree...happy to find and follow a fellow storyteller :-)

Thanks, this sub-culture of is seems under represented here on Steem.. So good to follow indeed. Do you have tips for more names to follow in this topic?

Afraid not. You are the first copywriter I have come across...however I have only just come back to Steemit. I joined in August last year, then stopped, and am now back again. If I come across any I will let you know.

yes please, and I'll return that favor
