The man who has bread to eat does not appreciate the severity of a famine. ~Yoruba Proverb

Nigeria happens to be Africa's biggest economy. You wouldn't believe that Poverty still remains significant at 33.1%.(source) Nigeria is a country with a huge population, great wealth creation oppurtinites and plenty of natural resources such as the much craved after oil. But why are some still struggling?

I'm strongly of the opinion that our wealthy people and leaders may never understand the pains of poverty and hunger in Nigeria. Most people are driven by a "me" syndrome. Even some orphanages have turned into money generating institutions. The "me" syndrome is infesting the people from the top to the lowest level of the population.

How can I help

I honestly appreciate every body who has done one thing or the other to help less privileged individuals. There are a few names here on steemit who have gone beyond themselves to render support to their communities. May God bless you. In giving, you are invariably giving to yourself.

Inspite of this, enough has not been done. We all need to help. Help someone around you, support some ones School fee, buy a meal for that little boy or give to that widow. Asides giving financially you can offer intellectual support, or even mentoring support.

I was once in a 'valley', I'm only glad am out. Its Not because am better or wiser , it's just how life is. There is a reason why the world is round, so that when your down today, tommorrow you could be up. It no body's fault that some others are less better off than some. Some times life just happens. When you consider this, you will be more accommodative.

The poor are lazy. Do you expect me to support that?

No! But do you stop eating eggs because one was rotten? 1 rotten egg doesn't mean that all the eggs in a basket are rotten. Because some people are not future oriented doesn't mean every one else is.

Extend a hand.

Proverbs have inspired me for a long time. There is so much wisdom in them. My father always told me a few every now and then. Hope to share my thoughts and lessons learnt from them daily with you.
