(40.50) Fourth BIMSTEC conference begins in Nepal
Fourth Bismetak Conference has started in Nepal's capital Kathmandu. The conference began on Thursday 30 August with the participation of leaders of South and Southeast Asian countries. The conference was officially started by the National Music Service of Nepal.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Thailand's Prime Minister Pretut Chau Ochcha, Myanmar's President Un Mint, Bhutan Interim Government's Chief Adviser Gialpo Wangchuk, Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena took part in the conference. The Nepalese President has organized lunch for the guests.
Nepalese Prime Minister and fourth BIMSTEC Conference chairperson KP Sharma Oli welcomed foreign leaders at the conference venue. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled to hold bilateral meetings in the evening after the conference.
Earlier, Sheikh Hasina reached Kathmandu on Thursday (30 August) to attend the fourth BIMSTEC conference. The Prime Minister held a meeting with Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma in Kathmandu this day. On the same day, the Prime Minister has also offered a courtesy call with Nepalese President Vidya Devi Bhandari. The Nepalese Foreign Ministry quoted the Himalayan Times as saying that the meeting discussed various aspects of Nepal-Bangladesh bilateral issues.
Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multicultural Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Regional Alliance of seven countries. Its purpose is to create a bridge by strengthening mutual relations between the countries of South and Southeast Asia. This sub-regional organization was formed on June 6, 1997, through the announcement of Bangkok. Of the member countries, 5 South Asia These are: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka. The other two countries are Myanmar and Thailand in Southeast Asia.
