Jakarta - The biggest fashion show in the country, Indonesia Fashion Week just finished. A row of designers from within the country and abroad vying to show off his work.

One of the designers who helped enliven Indonesia Fashion Week this year is Monica Lim, an Australian fashion designer.

Performing on the third day in a joint show themed The Heritage of Ancient Komodo, Monica Lim displays a collection of her brand called Fame Agenda.

Brand Fame Agenda that has been built by Monica since 2008 in Melbourne, Australia has a specification of printing materials. The combination of bold and bright colors is the hallmark of his work.

A number of outlets in the country also sell collections from Monica, among them are Metro, Centro and Galeries Lafayette.

Success in the show, Monica Lim also did not want to remain silent. Through his experience, Monica had the opportunity to hold discussions with dozens of students at the Fine Art Gallery, FSR Institute of the Arts Jakarta on Monday (2/4/2018) afternoon.

"I started my career as a lawyer in Australia and after I had a child I had time to take time off to be with him," Monica Lim said.

"In that time, I tried to do something, I tried to design the bag and sell it to the nearest person.Because of the many requests, I continue the opportunity by attending several exhibitions," she added.

At first, working as a lawyer and designer he still run. However, one year later Monica is steady to work as a designer. That he did because fashion is his hobby.

"From start of bag product, finally my business expand and start designing clothes. There is a story why I can open business opportunity in Indonesia At that time I met a friend who suggested to open opportunities here. Now, you can find a collection of Fame Agenda in a number of outlets in Jakata, "he explained.

"The Fame Agenda has its own characteristics, it can be ridiculous, because the work I created is inspired by the chaotic conditions of the world, from political and other temperatures. If you see, there will be a lot of color there. but there are also floral and bird motifs, which indicates that although there is still a lot of hope there, "Monica said.

Another experience shared by Monica as a designer is how to adapt to the conditions and tastes of the world.

"Australia is a different country. When people in the hemisphere experience winter, we are just the opposite, so the way to do is to make clothing material that remains comfortable to use so it can still be marketed," said Monica.

In the question and answer session, many students at IKJ are enthusiastic to attend the event. Questions about marketing techniques and convincing investors are what most students are very curious about.

Monica admits that it is difficult for a new graduate in the field of fashion designers to be able to grow the business and convince investors to fund.

"I admit this is very difficult to do, Investors will consider many things about what products you will sell," said Monica.

To get around that, Monica appealed to new graduate students to be able to find opportunities that exist. One of the proper ways is to follow or work for others.

"Working and joining for other designers is a good way for you, from which you will learn a lot and open up opportunities to meet great people," Monica said.

"The network will be formed and you can be ready to open your business," he added.

Now, his business is developing in Jakarta. Admitted by him many challenges that can be overcome. But it is quite difficult for him to go back and forth from Jakarta and Australia.
