I think it is just semantics. The word blog comes from webblog, when people where logging their activities, opinions and experiences giving them a timestamp. From the moment the log is posted, it is published and it is supposed to be original content. So the definitions overlap. I see it like this: If you post an article or your creation then it is publishing. If you post your daily activities/opinions/experiences then it is blogging.
