California - Hundreds of Facebook accounts and pages allegedly closely related to the Kremlin and controlled by the Internet Research Agency (IRA), have been removed on this day.

According to Facebook Chief Security Officer Alex Stamos, there are a total of 70 Facebook accounts, 65 Instagram accounts, and 138 Facebook pages that have been "disappeared".

He said many Facebook pages contain propaganda advertisements on their platforms. The page spends US $ 167,000 on advertising since January 1, 2015 and targets Russians and people living nearby.

This allegation came after it was found that 95 percent of the pages are Russian-language content.

It took several months for Facebook to identify those accounts and pages, which were eventually removed as they were controlled by the IRA, Stamos said in a written statement, as quoted by Motherboard on Wednesday April 4, 2018.

Facebook also includes screenshots of these propaganda uploads and ads shared through related accounts.

For example, an ad from the "Polititikach" page containing a photo of Russian President Vladimir Putin is raising a glass of wine. Underneath it read, "Let's toast to politics."

Another ad belonging to the "Elite Theory" page reads, "Tell us about the strange or frightening things that happened to you last year? Give 'like' to the craziest story."

Approximately 1.08 million original Facebook users at least follow one of the 138 pages, and 493,000 Instagram users follow one of those fake Instagram accounts.

"IRAs repeatedly use the complicated network of their fake accounts, to deceive and manipulate Facebook's original users, including before, during, and after the 2016 presidential election of the United States," Stamos admits.

"That's why we do not want them to exist on Facebook," Stamos said.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said his company's actions were appropriate, as an important step to protect the integrity of elections around the world.

"In the next few weeks, we will release a 'tool' (on Facebook), so you can check whether you 'like' or 'follow' IRA controlled accounts," Zuckerberg wrote in his blog on Wednesday (4/4). / 2018).

Facebook Releases 3 New Security Systems

As a result of the scandal Cambridge Analytica that tarnished his good name, Facebook also launched three new policies for data security system users.

The three new policies are officially enforced since Wednesday, March 28, 2018, with claims easily understood by users to follow.

Quoted from Time.com on Thursday, March 29, 2018, the policy changes that occur with the increasing popularity of the movement #DeleteFacebook in the virtual world, the result of the unfolding scandal of personal data theft of 50 million users.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has apologized, and agreed to testify before the United States Congress on the controversy.

"Last week we worked hard to reassert security policies, and helped people understand how Facebook works, as well as the choice they have for their data," explained vice president of Facebook, Erin Egan.

"We have clearly understood that privacy settings, and other important tools, are too hard to find, we have to do more to keep people communicating safely," he explained.

At the same time, deputy general counsel for Facebook, Ashlie Beringer, said: "So in addition to Mark Zuckerberg's announcement last week, we are taking additional steps in the coming weeks to make people more in control of their privacy."

Facebook has set three new policies, which are important to maintain the security of its privacy data. All three of these policies have been in effect since Wednesday in the US, and are starting today applied to all users of their accounts worldwide. Here are the three key policies:

1.Redesign the menu settings

First, Facebook plans to launch a redesign of its settings menu on mobile devices. The social media king said it would streamline the layout of settings to a single location, instead spreading across nearly 20 different screen sections.

2.Make it easier for users to control the data

Furthermore, Facebook adds a shortcut menu of privacy, which allows users to control data in just a few taps on the screen.

Users can also enable additional security measures, such as two-factor authentication, manage information used for Facebook ads, and customize who sees uploads and information on the profile.

3.Download your Facebook account data

Finally, Facebook allows users to manage information more securely, ie the freedom to download, store or delete data from the site.

In addition, there is also a re-arrangement of terms and conditions. The goal is to let users know about what data is collected and used by Facebook from its users.

"This update is about transparency, not about getting new rights to collect, use, or share data," Facebook wrote in an official statement.
