Exponential Growth

Sunday, December 13th, 2020; keep forging ahead.

The current time in Los Angeles 3:11 AM, Taipei 7:12 PM, Mumbai 4:43 PM, Minsk 2:14 PM.

Here are the latest numbers from Worldometer:

72,208,775 people have been infected around the globe with Covid-19.

1,613,693 have died from the disease. 50,596,274 have recovered. 3% death rate.

The rest are open cases awaiting an outcome.

Think we we’re doing 4 million cases a week and now we’re at 5 million cases a week.

This could be the first sign of exponential growth they talked about when the pandemic began. Only we were still on the way to a million cases then. Now we are on the threshold of 10 million cases a week to 20 million cases a week.

The top 14 countries all have one million cases. Only they haven’t been increasing rapidly. What we are seeing in the world numbers are all the small or poor countries neglected in this Pandemic until now. Those countries are feeling like the U.S. did in April or May when we thought we beat the virus and things were about to return to normal.

We are just now getting the new vaccine. Only does it really work? And then there are side effects and long term effects that cannot be know at this time. One vaccine needs to be frozen and there’s no infrastructure even in the U.S. to distribute it everywhere. Plus there’s only hundreds of thousands of doses. Not to mention this is one of the countries in the world.

As an American, it feels like we could turn the corner on this and attempt to return to normal. Only what I’m trying to express would be the fear for the world at this time. China has no vaccine so will they stay in isolation for years and years. India doesn’t have a vaccine and there’s a billion people there with the second highest case count. One could image a hospital surge there leading to an increased death rate. Who’s going to help them, when America needs everything she can muster to get herself back off the mat?

Africa? South America? The middle east? No vaccines and they have growing case numbers. Think of the potential for spread in the next year alone. Exponential growth, and a possible mass extinction event to follow.

The imagination pictures a world where America, Canada, Europe, Australia, Russia, and China make it through. While Russia and China remain behind castle walls, America and its Allies begin to colonize the now desolate world using large tracks of land to develop alternative energy grids.

The potential exists. I know America will fight to keep as many people alive as possible even if it means being hit by an attack from a foreign military.

At this time though, we are focused on saving ourselves. If this blog hadn’t of already covered everything and now finding its self in a lull with a Presidential transition that President Trump objects to then I might not have the time or the reason to go here at this time in the Pandemic.

Even so, here’s a sports analogy. Like an old coach known to exaggerate during the pro-football primetime show that generally gets it wrong, here’s my prediction, the world population could go from 7.8 billion people to 3 billion people as a result of this Pandemic.
