Hi everyone!

So in a very short period of time I have learned (and still learning) certain terms being thrown around in the cannabis industry. Some I can figure out by context others I have had to aak wtf does that mean?!?! I am going to try a recount the ones I have come across so far and continue to document others I learn along the way. Please please please correct me or add to any of these if it's not quite right.

Things have really changed since high school when all you needed to know was pot, papers, bong, and bowl lol!

1. Trim

This is probably the first term I found unfamiliar. According to potguide.com

it is the snipping of extra leaves from the plant >mainly focused on the buds.

Trim can be used in the extraction process because it is still a potent part of the plant.

2. FIM AND TOP

Recently learned this one while visiting grower. These terms are similar topping is cutting the very top of the plant right at the base of the node while FIM (Fuck I Missed) is leaving about 20 percent of the plant above the first node.

3. Keef

This I have gathered from context so please correct me if I am wrong. These are the sugary like crystals or trichromes that are super potent and make "sugar leaves" look sugary and buds look lovely.

4. Live resin

Learned this term today actually thanks to a post by dajohns1420. Check it out he explains better than I ever could.

5. BHO

Butane Hash Oil is extracted with butane. The butane is then stripped off in a vac oven.

6 Dabs and dabbing

Dabbing was an interesting one to come across, but I have not personally tried it. I stick to vape pens right now because I like the effect, but that is not to say I wouldn't try it in the future. Dabs in general seems to be a catch all term for cannabis extracts. So my vape pen contains dabs but I am not dabbing. Dabbing is similar to vaping except for temperature. The concentrate is heated super hot on a glass nail which instantly vaporizes and is so hot that some combustion happens as well to produce smoke.

7. Shatter

This is a form of dabs where the extract is cooled in sheets and shatters like glass when dropped. From what I have seen it looks like honey colored rock candy but softer.

Those are the ones that stick out right now. I will post more as I think of them. Have a great night everyone. 🤘🖤🤘

Hey thanks! I will have more to come as I learn. Being around more growers lately I find myself asking "a what?" quite often. Another thing I have found is some of these things mean different things to different people.

It's just like entering the world of cannabis for the first time. There are so many sociolectic variations! In my case, each group of friends I had called certain things differently. It sure is a linguistic adventure.
