"My New Adventures in Home Gardening" or "Yep, I'm growing Cannabis. Part 8"

in #cannabis5 years ago

Continuing from the previous part, when I showed you the light I will be trying out.

:-)

Not too bad for using things I had access to and just spending minimal dollars...

Look at that!

But let me show you how it came to be. The lid portion was last night and the transplant portion was this morning.

I had a plastic tote with a lid. I didn't really need the lid for its original purpose, so yeah. I'm using it. I busted out one of my many sharpies and measured the general circle size I needed and then drew them.

This will almost fit but the filter/pump is in the way and I don't want to go and get a smaller more stealthy filter/pump yet. (I may end up getting something better when I hopefully start seeing some nice results) So yeah, I have to cut that.

I got everything cut out using a big knife. Yes I know there may have been a better way, but how often do I get to fuck around with my giant knife? Time well spent, and I still have all of my fingers. The cups fit right in.

I will need to stop by the hydro store to get more baskets to fill out this lid.

Remember our friend Mama Basil? I let her try out the new setup overnight. The next morning I went to work starting the transplant process.

Here is what I have for cannabis so far. I will end up picking my strongest 6 ones if the rest eventually spout.

103221.jpg

For today, I am picking the very first one that sprouted, which is also the strongest one, and I will move it into a basket cup.

103520.jpg

I want to try this fish tank setup on this plant for a day and overnight. I would hate to toss them all in there at once in case I did something wrong. That is a beautiful looking root I think!

103539.jpg

So tomorrow morning if it looks like I have a happy little cannabis baby, I will begin moving the rest of the strong ones into baskets and into the tank.

103632.jpg

The rockwool cubes are smaller than the baskets, so soak a couple more cubes and broke them up to fill in the gaps in the cup.

103715.jpg

I think that will hold it.

104619.jpg

I let the root peek out of the bottom.

104626.jpg

I had some left over aquarium stones that never went into the tank. I put some of those on top of the rockwool and loosely around the plant.

The bottom of the baskets barely penetrate the surface of the water.

Well, so far so good. I've added a small fan on the side to give the baby a breeze. It has been a few hours since I put the first one in there and it seems to not be dead yet!

Let's see how it looks tomorrow morning...

This is being done cheaply at home. I am a relative noob when it comes to growing. I have grown outside before, but this will be my first indoor attempt. Also I'm incorporating a tank full of fish. So wish me luck!

Love your updates! Great useage of the aquarium stones! I do not know shit about growing hydro, but looks like you got it going good. I’ll hit with canna in a bit 👍

This is my first time doing it this way. So we can both learn at the same time :-) I may replace the stones with something better if they aren't friendly to the stems.

Great going so far!
Those stones around the little sprout seem precarious... also is there any worry of 'rotting off' where the stem and surface meet?

I'm not sure how they will be yet, but I am watching. I wanted to cover them with something I already had. But I could take them out if they are looking like a bad idea.

I've used perlite ...but never rockwool

This is my first time with rockwool. No complaints so far.

Gonna need more than that LED and also more space for your plants when they mature... there’s so much more to growing herb than people realize. I did it for 17 years hydroponically.

I have been prepping another area for then they get bigger with larger containers and I am looking at more lights too. :-D

I have a basil cutting I want to drop into this tank and I think this will be nice for stuff like that. I also have some Oregano, Sage and Parsley so far.
