History of Ferrari 375 America

The Ferrari 375 America was presented during the 1953 Paris Salon with a coachwork designed by Pinin Farina. The powerful Gran Turismo America, the top of luxury at Ferrari, replaced the 340 America (1951) and the 342 America (1952). It was only produced in 1953 and 1954 with hand-crafted coachwork :

This 375 America was penned by Alfredo Vignale as the historian Stanley Nowak described to “a spontaneity of line.”. Vignale's trademark is the two-tone color livery, in this case, Amaranto and metallic grey and the use of chrome and stainless for the ornamentation (American loved it 😀). Each model done by Vignale is different, the two first cars are more or less the same while the third (chassis 0337 AL) is unique as you can see on the photo below :

The 375 America, in sale next week, was displayed at the 1954 World Motor Sports Show in New-York and 1954 Geneva Motor Show. The car was later sold to Robert C. Wilke of the Leader Card Company in Milwaukee (US) and a famous sponsor of American racing with a successful Indianapolis team.
