During its Amelia Island sale, RM Sotheby's is offering up this stunning 1959 Fiat-Abarth 750 GT nicknamed the Double Bubble for the distinctive roof humps designed by Carrozzeria Zagato :
With this distinctive bodywork, the Fiat-Abarth 750 GT is another great ride for this summer after the Shelby 289 Cobra presented earlier this week.

History of Fiat-Abarth 750 GT
The Fiat-Abarth 750 GT was presented during the 1955 Turin Auto Show. Carlo Abarth, automobile designer and founder in of the famous auto brand Abarth, developped a 750 cc version of the humble Fiat 600 (<) selling derivation (upgrade kit). He produced also road and competition cars in his factory with lightweight aluminum coachwork by Carrozzeria Zagato (coachworker based in Milan).
The Fiat-Abarth 750 GT started competition in 1956 with some successes during European events, especially during the 1957 Mille Miglia (victory in the class Grand Touring 750).
"Carlo Abarth’s genius in turning Fiat’s low-displacement engines into true pocket-rockets was renown, as was Zagato’s ability to create ultra-lightweight and gorgeous coachwork." (source : RM Sotheby's)
Specification
Usually, the Fiat-Abarth 750 GT Zagato is equipped with 747 cc inline four-cylinder engine with two-barrel Weber carburettor and four speed manual transmission producing 72 hp for a top speed of 129 kmh.
This example has an improved GBS 981 cc engine. I don't know exactly what GBS means and I can't find anything on it. So if anyone knows, a comment would be appreciated 👍
This model, restored, is finished with a cool style racing livery, white with blue stripes aka Competition Coupé. Great effect. The interior is also beautiful in blue vinyl. Perfect match...

Even at 1200 lbs that 72 hp probably doesn't feel like much, but I bet that car was a hoot to throw around corners power-on with the rear engine!
It must be a little rocket on the tracks, great improvement done by Abarth on the small Fiat 600
