Yes the factory in Mexico continued to produce Beetles until 2019... in Europe the production ended in 1978. That's why we still see a lot of them in South America.
I know very little about Datsun, in Europe during my childhood it didn't exist (well I think). But I understand why for the 280Z, very cool design :
