Career: 11 Ways to Optimize and Simplify Your Life

in #careerlifehack8 years ago

Many people equate optimization with minimalism. And minimalism - in this era of consumption - seems a strange and unnatural way of life. We represent strict rooms with empty walls and without any property ... we represent the need to do without everything ... well, muck - who wants it?

But you can take some steps towards minimalism and from consumption - and reach the golden mean that is right for you. You do not need to move to radical minimalism in everything. A few steps in the right direction will benefit you and can motivate you to optimize even more!

Find the golden mean - optimization without minimalism.

How to become more organized in your career and in life?
First of all, ask difficult questions and evaluate the costs. You NEED a big house? Do you need two cars? Should you hold on to things that have less than 5% chance of being used again? Do you have to fill in your calendar with events?

Think about the value of the consumer lifestyle. It is higher than you can imagine! People think that they only pay once for the thing they possess - when buying it - but it's not. Let's say you buy a new TV. In addition to the purchase price, there are expenses for its maintenance (things occupy space, and space is not free); there are costs for insurance, maintenance, transportation and, possibly, repair. So with each your thing constant expenses are connected.

Who pays this price? You. Working overtime, just to allow yourself to stay in a big house full of things ... you are depriving yourself of TIME and freedom that you could enjoy!

Here is my manifesto against possessing a large number of things. I'd rather have the freedom and time, not to mention the simplicity associated with the lack of need to take care of all of this (I do not like to dust - I'd rather ride a bike!).

  1. Get rid of the trash and organize everything.
The less things you have and the better they are organized, the less time you spend on things. Walk through your living space, room by room, and clean up in it. Think of the kindness that you do when you sacrifice unused property! Think about your relationship with your property. If you do a lot of cleaning, fine. Congratulate yourself with this! Reconsider this space in a few months. Is there something that, without which, as you mistakenly thought, you could not live? Did you use it for months after the last cleaning? No? Then why do you need it? Keep ONLY what brings you joy and / or what you often use. On everything else you will not be bored!

  2. Get ready in the morning from the evening
Especially if you are not a "lark"! Get the clothes you need, charge your computer and phone ... put everything you need near the door ... set aside a few minutes of the evening for what you usually do in a hurry in the morning. And voila - easy, relaxed morning with family, physical exercises, games with a dog, meditation or just a pleasant pastime.

  3. Use and clean
Take your clothes off as soon as you get it out of the dryer. Remove it immediately, as soon as you take it off. Wash dishes immediately after eating. Clean and remove the toys for the weekend (equipment for outdoor activities, sports, etc.) immediately after use - do so that they were ready for the next time!

  4. Allocate 15 minutes a day for cleaning and housekeeping in the house
Maintaining order is much simpler and more effective than wasting invaluable days off trying to get the mess up. Here's what you can do on Monday for 15 minutes: load things into the washing machine; change bed linen and vacuum one room. And then get washed clothes. On Tuesday, vacuum one room, clean up the area in the kitchen, which is constantly magically accumulates something horrible. On Wednesday, vacuum at least one room and clean the bathroom. Voila: three micro-flashes of activity - and you did more than for the full indignation of Saturday!

Focus on experiences, not things

  1. Unsubscribe
How many unread e-mails in your incoming? Probably, you are subscribed to too many different mailings, so unsubscribe from those that you do not read or read rarely.
  1. If you use your computer in an everyday routine, create an organized file system.
Do not look for one document among 8,000 downloaded files. Download it and save it in the right place. Save your nerves and a lot of time.

  2. Create a "hot list"
It does not mean the list of cases is longer than the Amazon River. A list of the most important, burning things that need to be done on this day (this week), sorted by priorities. Take on non-urgent and secondary only after you figure out the hot list.

  3. Work with jerks
In both workers and home projects (including cleaning), work short bursts of intense activity, instead of saying to yourself, "I'll finish it today" - because it's too easy to get distracted if you single out a whole day. Focus on what you are doing, for 30 minutes, and then relax. With these jerks you will do more!

  4. Find time for exercise and meditation
Manage your stress. Stress makes it difficult to make decisions and do things. Because of stress, you spend an excessive amount of time and mental energy on suffering for assigned cases, rather than dealing with them. Every day, allocate time "for yourself" to recharge your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual batteries. Only 30 minutes a day will work wonders!

  5. Pay bills automatically via the Internet

  1. Buy products - every day or every other day - on the way home or by combining it with other routes
NOT when hungry (always have a snack!) ... but if you spend 10 minutes to buy several fresh ingredients for a couple of dishes, it means that you eat fresh food, do not hesitate about what to cook, and save a precious day off without spending him in the store.

To optimize is to get rid of things and focus on experiences. That is, LIVE!
