Two articles on the website Electrek caught my eye today. It seems like more and more car manufacturers are getting serious with offering affordable EVs. Let me tell you more.
Opel Corsa-e
After announcements by sister companies Peugeot and DS, it was time for Opel te unveil their first B-class all electric car: the Corsa-e. The car is based on the same platform as the e-208 and the DS Crossback E-tense and has a WLTP-range of 330 km. Historically I haven't been a big fan of the Opel design language, but I must admit that this Corsa looks pretty good:
The price hasn't been announced yet, but I expect somewhere around (or hopefully below) €35,000 (NB: the e-208 will cost €36.250 in The Netherlands). The Corsa-e will be available for order in only a few weeks time.
Skoda CITIGOe
Skoda hasn't been active at all in the EV space, but that will change shortly. The Czech manufacturer (with a German owner) unveiled the CITIGOe. Basically it's just an e-UP with slightly different looks, but nevertheless it is great to see a new player entering the market.
The range should be about 265 km on a full charge. The best thing however is the price, which is said to be "well below €20,000". Production starts in the second half of the year, so I expect the first deliveries around Q4 of this year of Q1 of next year.

I like the Opel Corsa-e but the price tag is a bit much. Unfortunately, it probably won't make it the USA. I think the key is to get something with 200 mile (320KM) range and under $25,000 (€22,308). I do like the new Chevy Bolt have you checked it out? I own the baby Bolt, the Chevy Spark haha.
For that price, the car is a bit too small indeed. The Skoda is a good try, but also very small.
I haven't seen the new Bolt. The current one seems nice, but we cannot get it here in Europe. Instead they sell it as the Opel Ampera e, but for a much higher price.
I expect a lot more (good) options in a year or two.

Great to see some movement in EV options for this market segment! Price comparable to internal combustion options. I wonder what the service intervals are for the EV's

Probably very long. The maintenance on these cars usually is very minimal. Which makes it (even more) cheap to drive.

We are both 1.85 meter and a Tesla is too expensive and we need high distance like 400 km. Not sure yet what to do next year, hybrid or electric the corsa is looking good by the way.
The best (more or less affordable) EVs you might consider are the Hyundai Kona and the Kia e-Niro. Both have a range of about 400 km (less in winter and with only highway driving), but are above €40k. If they don't fit your needs (and wallet), you should probably go for a (plug-in) hybrid or wait till the VW ID3 or any of its siblings from Seat/Skoda.
