Is The New Suzuki Swift Hybrid The Ultimate Supermini?

in #cars20 days ago

As many of you may know, here at Planetauto we have a soft spot for Suzuki – especially the Jimny (and yes, I still kick myself for getting rid of mine…sigh!)

So when the lovely people in the Suzuki press office invited us to join them for the UK launch of the new Swift, we were delighted!
So Ben and I packed up, and headed down to the Tewksbury Park Hotel – awaiting us was a convoy of new Swift’s and an overnight stay to enjoy the hospitality, before heading off on a driving adventure behind the wheel.

If you don’t know much about the Swift, this year sees Suzuki celebrating 40 years of automotive innovation. This latest iteration is a Hybrid too, so it was interesting to see what’s changed whilst paying homage too.

From the first glance, it’s clear that the Swift Hybrid maintains the model's compact, sporty essence but refines it with contemporary touches that signal its advanced capabilities. The vehicle features updated styling such as a sleeker front grille and sharper LED headlights that enhance its dynamic appearance.

Inside, the Swift Hybrid offers a refreshed cabin that maximises both style and functionality. The use of premium materials and smart design choices provide a comfortable and engaging driving environment. The infotainment system, now fully compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensures connectivity is seamless, enhancing the driver and passenger experience with cutting-edge technology.

Under the bonnet you’ve got a 1.2L, 3 cylinder Dualjet engine paired with a 12V mild hybrid system, designed to boost fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. This system supports the engine during acceleration and helps save fuel, making the Swift not only more economical but also peppier in urban environments.

The drive from Tewksbury to Bibury showcased the Swift Hybrid’s improved performance and handling. The car remained nimble and responsive, with the added hybrid system providing a smooth, quiet ride, especially at lower speeds. This setup ensures that the Swift Hybrid is as fun to drive as it is efficient, proving that sustainability doesn’t mean sacrificing enjoyment.

As the Suzuki Swift marks its 40th anniversary, the Hybrid model stands as a testament to Suzuki’s dedication to innovation and its ability to adapt to the evolving demands of modern drivers.

The Swift Hybrid is not just a car; it's a bridge between past and future, offering a modern Supermini to a new generation without losing the essence of what has made the Swift a favourite for generations.

Thank you all, and enjoy!
