Is The Nissan Qashqai The Best SUV In The UK?

in #carslast month

As most of you know, we are rather fond of a good road trip here at Planetauto!

So the last few weeks have been busy ones for us, as with the Spring Season upon us means that shows and launches are with us again. We had a key swap booked with Nissan, so we headed down to the Subaru launch in the Ariya and drove home in the latest model Qashqai.

The following week saw us head over to the CV Show at the NEC and then down further to Tewksbury for the new Suzuki launch. During that launch, Nissan went and announced a new iteration to the Qashqai, so this present model will be available with some great deals!

Until the new one is out and about, let’s take a closer look at this model – starting with the exterior. The Qashqai isn’t just another crossover; it’s a statement of style and intention. With a more assertive stance and sharper lines, it’s both futuristic and rugged. From the sleek roofline to the aerodynamically efficient tail, every aspect has been sculpted to enhance both performance and aesthetic appeal. Available in a range of eye-catching colours and with optional larger alloy wheels, this vehicle doesn’t just take you places; it ensures you arrive in style.

Step inside, and you’re greeted by a cabin that redefines the crossover experience, offering a sanctuary of high-tech and luxurious comforts. The driver-centric dashboard features a state-of-the-art infotainment system with a large touchscreen that integrates seamlessly with your digital life. Whether it's connecting your smartphone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, navigating through tight spots, or just selecting the perfect soundtrack for your journey, the Qashqai keeps you connected and in control. The interior is spacious, with thoughtful amenities that include ambient lighting, premium materials, and ergonomic seating that makes long drives feel like a breeze.

Under the bonnet, the Qashqai is as impressive as it is on the outside. With a range of engine options, including the innovative mild-hybrid system, the Qashqai strikes a perfect balance between power and environmental responsibility. This system not only reduces emissions but also enhances fuel efficiency—ideal for the eco-conscious driver who doesn’t want to compromise on performance.

The driving experience is agile and confident, thanks to the finely tuned suspension and advanced all-wheel-drive system that handles well on both city streets and rural roads. The Qashqai delivers a smooth ride, precise handling, and responsive steering that makes every journey a joy.

Nissan knows one size doesn’t fit all, so the Qashqai comes in several trims to suit various needs and budgets:
Visia – the entry level trim, it covers all the basics, and has impressive standard features
Acenta – ramps up the comfort with dual-zone climate control and smart safety tech
N-Connecta – brings more connectivity and a better infotainment system
Tekna & Tekna+ - offer top tier luxuries that include heated seats, advanced driver assist systems, and premium audio.

When put side by side with competitors like the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage, the Qashqai holds its ground with unique features like the mild-hybrid system and a more engaging drive. While the Tucson might offer a slightly more spacious interior, the Qashqai excels in handling and driver engagement, making it a preferred choice for those who love driving.

Thank you all, and enjoy!

Can it charge from the mains? This seems like it should be much simpler than other hybrids as there is only one drive system to the wheels and the engine just drives a generator. Does that mean that engine noise is not directly related to the throttle?

I still haven't driven our MG4 again :) Son charged it this morning on cheap rate and the solar panels still let us export more power than we imported. Having panels and an EV is the ideal combination as you are basically paying nothing to run the car unless you take a long trip.

hi @steevc - it looks after itself, and doesn't need to be charged. Fill it up with petrol and drive it. We covered this in the review, so I'm wondering if you missed it?

You have solar panels - nice! That's a great setup you've got for the MG4 - it's a pity you haven't had chance to drive it yet.

I may have missed that point. I think plug-in hybrids are optimal for those who have cheap power available. Some are sold as 'self-charging' but they should all have regenerative braking anyway. I've not seen the stats on how much hybrids save compared to the most efficient pure petrol cars. The hybrids are likely to be heavier. I suspect the manufacturers have to build them to meet various rules, but it should be about burning less oil.

It will be interesting to see what happens after the election next month - thanks @steevc
