I do this to my cat often but it results in a lot of biting and scratching.
That's more or less the same for me, which is why I'm so surprised she was purring!
I have four cats myself. Sushi, Dilbert, Tobias, and Miso all love a good snuggle in their own way and all generally like a good belly scratch...until they don't that is. Then any further affection is met with kicks and bites.
Yume normally kicks when I try for tummy rubs.
