Cat Domestic Affairs

Cats naturally seek dominance when they grow up. They will spread their scent and proclaim territory as much as possible and may seem somewhat aggressive in some cases. For cats that have been neutered, a change of behaviour can be seen. The domestic cat will limit its main territorial points around the house and perhaps surrounding outdoor areas including driveways and gardens. This is quite different from a cat that has been unaltered as a common theme would see cats expanding their territorial coverage and challenging surrounding areas through conflict.

Having more than one cat in the house is perfectly normal. In some cases having multiple kittens might alarm someone if they feel territorial issues may arise later, but this is not usually the case at all. Cats that have grown up together are very tolerable and will happily cohabit around the house without issue. There may be an issue however if a new adult cat is introduced in the same household and this is a procedure that needs to be dealt with extreme care. If this is the case, guidance from an expert should be sought to run through the proper introduction process to avoid any damaging conflict that will disrupt the household.

Neutered cats also have their own ways of solving conflict. Rather than option for physical confrontation, stern and vocal exchanges will occur. The high pitched arguments between cats and shift in body language will serve as tools which cats use to solve their conflicts. The outcome of the shout down will discover the feline of dominance in perhaps the most peaceful way as opposed to violence that may occur between unneutered cats.

Though for a period it may seem logical to keep an unaltered cat, perhaps with breeding in mind. The long term harmony of keeping multiple cats can be an issue. Repeated pregnancy may be the least of the worries if letting a tom outdoors. The male cat will be at risk of physical confrontations on a daily basis. Injuries sustained from this type of lifestyle can lead to infection and much worse. Decisions should be made to allow a cat to lead a healthy and sustainable lifestyle that fits will in the ability of the owner. Coping with these issues is a normal part of cat keeping but an understanding of the potential risks needs to be had when planning ahead. Keeping cats safe should be a priority when caring as a pet owner, a clear assessment of the environment and caring capabilities should be taken. While neutering can be considered somewhat questionable in terms of ethical practice, male cats can often lead much more peaceful lives.
