This post is to share with you all that in Spain censorship is alarmingly increasing in the artistic field nowadays. Here you have 3 examples:
• MUSIC. Yesterday morning, Valtonyc (who was not a famous rap singer before being taken to court) has been sentenced to prison: 3 years and 6 months. The reasons? Basically, he sings against the monarchy and he opposes to the social injustices (this is what the mass media said). The language employed by him is not appropriate, ok, but he is claiming for a change that is needed urgently. The same is happening with another rap singer, Pablo Hasel, who was taken to court as well.
• BOOKS. Yesterday, a judge in Galicia has somehow “kidnapped” a book entitled “Fariña” (euphemism for the word drug) and written by the journalist Nacho Carretero. It is supposed to violate the right of honor of an ex-mayor of that area. Obviously, censorship increases sales.
• ART. Today in ARCO (Madrid), few Santiago Sierra’s masterpieces have been removed because his work was about political prisoners. According to the gallerist Helga de Alverar there is not need to exaggerate… Come on!
I'm just informing... and hoping things become better for everybody. I think we should stop and reflect upon that.
