CERN Visit and the Invention of the World Wide Web

in #cern8 years ago

I recently visited CERN, and I was in nerd heaven. Not only is CERN the world's largest super collider, it is also birthplace of the World Wide Web (WWW). As an aside isn't it funny that it takes longer to say the abbreviation for the World Wide Web than the actual words?

Got to go underground to see the 2,000 ton collector at the CMS facility, which also is where the control room is located.

Me and the collector:

Globe of Science and Innovation (the firt World Wide Web server is located inside):

Control Room (like these are particle physicists, dude!):

A differing post on my blog - along with a rant about people to this day making jokes at the expense of Al Gores REAL contribution to the creation of the Internet as we know it today: http://www.tomkirkham.com/2017/05/11/cern-and-the-invention-of-the-world-wide-web/
