I can't be sure what to think about the issue of private children being private parents. What, did God give me a special treasure to make me special? Or did I give me special children because I'm a very special person? I'm not sure which of these ideas is more plausible, or even frankly, I think that such ideas overly simplify the issue.
When we were pregnant with our first baby, we did not have any prenatal prenatal tests because if our baby would be born with any medical or developmental disorder, we would continue to be his family. We didn't have to terminate the pregnancy in our minds. Moreover, it seemed like a very remote possibility for a couple who were both in their 20s. Our child was born with Down's syndrome. Of course, after a bit of confusion and sadness, we are sober, we have come to ourselves and have started to do what is needed.
Is that making us special? I hope not. Isn't that what families need to do?
Then we thought of adopting a second child. A child with Down's syndrome. Is it because we're special? Not really. We have looked at the success of the first one, we are very happy together, we are also very happy, we thought that a second down syndrome child would make us more happy. In fact, the fact is that every parent may not have enough children to have children with Down's syndrome, and we have decided to share the resources we have with another child. In short, to deal with children with Down's syndrome and to deal with them was our strength.
Our second child also came with a big need package, of course. We've started slowly decoding each one. Each time, we did what is necessary because parents do so. They meet whatever the needs of their children. They needed a hearing aid, we took it. Parents pay for their children's hospital and treatment costs because it doesn't make them special, does it? What else did we do anyway? Our children needed help. We helped. It's that simple.
