I suspect China will use the deaths of the two fishermen as an excuse to claim they need to "protect Chinese Nationals in Taiwan" and that will be the pretext for a "special military operation" to try and "liberate" Taiwan from the Taiwanese.
I mean, Russia could not have come up with euphemisms that lame on their own. China was behind that. I'll be surprised if they don't use this as the launching pad for their own campaign.

Possibly. Another possibility is that the CCP knows if they respond at all, Da-Han-Zhuyi is so rampant right now that public opinion will compel them to go to war and while they'd love to, they know they're not ready.
I find that unlikely though because I think they believe their own propaganda and think that they are able to take Taiwan.
