BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD

jesus-viu-natanael-debaixo-da-figueira.jpgBefore Jesus was brought into the world He created, he was described as the Savior. This made his birth a memorable one such that even three wise men brought their gift from afar. Remember they were three wise men and if the scripture describes them to be wise men, then so be it. For every word in the Holy writ is authoritative and true .

This savior came into His own. And the first time the testimony of His sacrificial ministry was declared was after he was baptised. 'This encounter took place in Bethany, an area east of the Jordan River, where John was baptizing.' it was after this that John declared Jesus as the Lamb for he said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29, ESV).

This is the testimony of John, the man whom the Savior himself had described by these words 'I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John" (Luke 7:28, ESV). So John's testimony about Jesus the Savior was valid and it's worth believing with all our hearts.

Here John calls us all to 'Behold, the Lamb of God', the One 'who takes away the sin of the world!'. One thing we can all see palpable in this text is that this call is for everyone. To support the universality of his call, let's take a look at a verse after it. John said 'He is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘A man is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’ So here the question we all need to ask ourselves is to whom did John preach? There is nothing to deny the fact that he was preaching to the Jews. And not just Jews alone but to everyone to repent for the kingdom of God was at hand.

If John had been a Ghanaian, he would have been preaching to Ghanaians to repent from their sins and believe in the Savior for the Salvation of their souls. So the setting doesn't matter. For Jesus didn't come for the Jews alone but also for the gentiles. Once again we hear John calling everyone to look at their savior. The lamb of God. The unblemish sacrificial lamb of God. The lamb whom God used to atone for the sins of his creatures. The Lamb who's so precious and powerful that His blood could wash the sins of all everyone who had lived, was living and will ever live on this earth.

John made the cry, I am making the cry too. That you may behold your Savior Jesus and be saved. Go to him with all your sins, sins within or without, big or small, for His blood is powerful enough to wash them and make you 'as white as snow'. The only thing that's preventing you from coming to Him is the very reason why He was offered as a sacrificial Lamb.
