God told Abraham, your seed will spend 400yrs in a foreign land until the iniquity of the Amorites be full! Imagine that when Joseph became the prime minister of Egypt , he started making arrangement for the whole family to relocate back home!
Imagine that when Hiel was to build Jericho again, and when his first son died, he started cursing God for being wicked without knowing that before he was ever born, Joshua had placed a curse!
It is this lack of understanding how our God works that has given us as preys to many of these false prophet in prayer houses telling us to sow seeds and so on!
Come to think of it, most of the things we always ask for that hurts us in this our generation are things canal for our needs, our ego, our lusts!
I bet you not many will ask for deeper communion with God or ask for a move of God in a particular area for revival so desperately that their heart will become sick for unanswered prayer.
The key as you pointed out is to know ROM.8:28.

Lack of understanding and knowledge of God's will is the number one reason we face so many unpleasant situations. Little wonder God said in His word that His people perish for lack of wisdom.
We ought to grow in the knowledge of God.
