Investment markets: Is the 'Santa Rally' real?

in #christmas2 years ago

Investors found their festive spirits in 2020 despite a raging pandemic. Even with most of the global economy shut due to Covid-19, US stocks recorded their best December monthly return in over a decade, with the Ibbotson SBBI US Large Cap index returning 3.8%. This is just another example of how everyone has an equal opportunity for success year after year and nothing ever really changes! And so investors expected -9% returns back then but it never materialised.

The "Santa Rally" (the supposed effect that Christmas cheer spurs up stock prices) failed again this season as it did last time. In fact, December remains one of the most prosperous months for equities among all other months in some 25 years on record! No matter what happens or who succeeds however; because like everything else it's all about perspective.
