Pros and Cons About the Google Chrome Browser

in #chrome5 years ago (edited)

Google Chrome is probably the most popular browser on the web. Initial days, Chrome competed with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari browsers that weer dominant browsers those days. But the situation was changed and today Chrome filled out 70% of the global browser market. Though almost everyone starts using Chrome, it has its advantages and disadvantages.

Google Chrome Pros

Smooth and Sleek Design

The design of Chrome was revamped in 2018 and has some features. Now we have a  simple and smooth design based on the Material Design concept from Google.  The latest Chrome version does not have traditional menu items and stores all options at the simple settings page.

High-Speed Workflow

Because of their sleek design which has nothing superfluous, we can see with what speed most of the browser is loading on Chrome. Chrome is really fast.

Safety and Security

Google can block malicious and dangerous sites and you just need to enable the “Safe Browsing” option in settings. By default, Chrome can show you if the connection is secured and if the website has HTTPS encryption in the address bar when you are going to download a webpage.

Cross-Platform

Google uses  Blink Browser Engine that allows running Chrome on Windows, Linux and Mac platforms.  Also, Google's main features are mostly the same in all operating systems.

Devices Synchronization  and Google Apps Integration

With Chrome you can log in using your Google account and synchronize all history, bookmarks, and other data across all devices where you use this browser. It will help you to manage all files without confusion. Also, you just need to login to Chrome and you will automatically login to such Chrome apps as Gmail, AdSense, Google Ads, Search Console, and others.

Great Extensions Base

Google Chrome has a great variety of extensions to enhance the browser’s functionalities and to satisfy your needs. You have two marketplaces to download and install extensions. They are the Chrome Web Store and G Suite marketplace. Also, you have an ability to build your own extension and upload it to market.

Tab Management

Chrome has some amazing and useful tab management features. You can open a webpage in a new tab on the same or new windows and use incognito and guest modes. Unlike other browsers, when one of the tab crashes, other tabs will continue working without crashing.

Functional Inbuilt Features

The Chrome browser has a lot of powerful features. They include webpages translation, PDF Viewer and Omnibox. The Omnibox has such functions as opening a URL and directly searching using the Google search engine.

Google Chrome Cons

Confusing with Chromium

Chrome is an open-source browser that is based on Google’s Chromium. However, the Chromium browser exists independent of Chrome. Microsoft recently announced that the new Edge will use Chromium open-source technology. Literally, this update will make Google a monopoly in the world of browsers.

Privacy Concerns and Google Tracking

Google is known for privacy-related issues and it was already fined by European countries for processing information without the user’s agreement. After you log in to Chrome and sync all activities, you hand over the entire control of your data and activities in Google’s hand. If the privacy is so important for you so uninstall Chrome and use Mozilla.

High CPU and Memory Usage

Google Chrome requires more CPU and RAM resources compared to other browsers. Browser is lightweight but the high memory consumption will impact the workflow of other programs and apps on your computer.

Changing Default Browser

Google is a default browser only in Chrome OS. If you use Windows and macOS, you have to change the default browser from Edge and Safari to Google Chrome. But the issue will not be solved completely. When you open HTML pages offline, your computer will use the in-built browser. You should set-up the default apps and it can be really hassled.

Limited Options and Customization

In Chrome, we will not see such customization and options as other browsers have. If you close a browser window with multiple tabs opened, Chrome will not inform you. You can close all tabs and lose some important data.

If you do not worry about privacy and looking for functionality, Chrome will be the best choice for you. Chrome is probably a king in the nowadays browser world.
