Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio de Maria Parish Church or the Our Lady of Patronage of Mary Parish Church commonly known as Boljoon Church, it is one of the oldest church in Cebu. It is a Roman Catholic Church dedicated to the Our Lady of Patrocinio in the municipality of Boljoon. Cebu, Philippines.
Since we are just having a short time to explore the history of this church personally, what I did is read some articles about this magnificent church, with its thick coral-stone walls and high windows on the internet. According to what I have read. The centuries-old Patrocinio de Maria Church, the town’s parish church, is a central structure in the parish complex. For the record, the church was started a year after the slave traders or pirates (moros) destroyed the original structure in 1782. To completely built the church, it took about 30 years to be completed in the year 1814. The church was built by different people. From the wikipedia. The Boljoon church was built by Augustinian priest Father Ambrosio Otero in 1783. It was continued by Father Manuel Cordero in 1794 and completed by Father Julián Bermejo in 1841. The church was declared as a National Historical Landmark by the National Historical Institute in 1999,and it was listed as a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines in 2001 and it is the only church in Cebu listed as a National Cultural Treasure.
Because of its beautiful and unique structure, many tourists now consider Boljoon as an alternative Cebu destination during the Lenten season. And of course since we are already here we never miss to take a photo from it. Here are some of it.
