I had just commented on one of Taskmaster's videos on a similar topic, that dystopias are either the Mad Max type where civilization has collapsed and there is no government, or the Orwellian type in which technology assists government in taking total control of the population. I think this is the latter.
Technology is used to improve the lives of people principally by exerting total control over them. Except that you can't force everybody to accept the technology and give up control.
