The biopic is based on the true story of Vince Papale, who appears in the film with his son in a cameo. Papale was the first player in the NFL to be chosen without having played at college or professional level. He played for three seasons with the Eagles, from 1976 to 1978, covering the role of wide receiver and special teamer. He scored two touchdowns in his career and helped bring the team to the playoffs in 1978 and 1979. The motion picture was well received by critics and audiences, who appreciated the careful direction of Ericson Core, the realistic and engaging game scenes, the soundtrack by Mark Isham and the performances of the actors. The picture was also a success at the box office, grossing over 58 million dollars on a budget of 30 million . The film also inspired many viewers to believe in their dreams and not give up in front of difficulties.

Se siete appassionati di film biografici e sportivi, non potete perdervi "Invincible", il film del 2006 diretto da Ericson Core e interpretato da Mark Wahlberg. Il film racconta la storia vera di Vince Papale, un trentenne di Filadelfia che riesce a entrare a far parte della squadra di football americano dei suoi sogni, i Philadelphia Eagles, pur non avendo una formazione professionistica. Il film è ambientato nel 1976, un anno difficile per la città e per la squadra, che vive una crisi di risultati e di entusiasmo. Il nuovo allenatore, Dick Vermeil, interpretato da Greg Kinnear, decide di organizzare delle selezioni aperte ai dilettanti, sperando di trovare qualche talento nascosto. Vince Papale, che lavora come insegnante supplente e barista, si presenta ai provini spinto dagli amici e dalla passione per il football. Contro ogni pronostico, riesce a impressionare il coach e a guadagnarsi un posto nel ritiro ufficiale della squadra.
