Hosting a world schooling hub!

Today my post is about the recent world schooling hub at Hive Hub! We had a 6-week hub here in San Marcos, and honestly it’s been really interesting. This was the first hub we’ve done here, and it was kind of a practice hub to see how things would go if we wanted to do more in the future.

Me and my friend started teaching little kids silks/aerials on Mondays and little kids theatre on Wednesdays. It’s been really fun, and I’ve gotten way more experience teaching younger kids than I expected. Both classes are from ages 4–7, which is… a range. Some kids are super easy, and some are, well, four. When you tell a seven-year-old to sit on the silks, they’ll usually just do it. A four-year-old? Absolutely not.

Because of that, we split the group. Down by the aerial rig, we have half the kids doing silks, and on the yoga platform we have the other half doing gymnastics. We switch them so everyone gets a turn, and it makes things so much easier—for us and for the kids.

I also had some of my own activities, like silks sessions, a fungi workshop, and an eco lab, which was cool because I got to try different things, not just movement classes. I really liked learning more things that were out of the ordinary for me like a fungi class- I would never have done this if it wasn’t included in the hub.

Another cool thing was a homeade skincare class my mom did!

The only downside was that I wish there had been more kids my age. Most of the kids were between 4–8, and since I was teaching a lot of them, there wasn’t much time to just hang out. In other hubs we’ve been to in different countries, there were more older kids, and I’m really hoping future hubs are like that—especially so my brother and I have people our age to hang out with.

Overall though, it was a really good experience, and I’m glad this hub happened. It definitely feels like a solid start, and I’m excited to see what future hubs might look like.
