We have a name

Over the past few weeks, my videos have been featuring music for organ and choir. Like a lot of things in life, our group formed by chance and was one positive thing to come out of the current pandemic. We have all known each other for years and sung in other groups previously but becoming a specialised "sibling" ensemble has some unique feeling about it. I had to chuckle at the fact that we went from Cesar Franck's, Panis Angelicus, to suddenly exploring more and more repertoire and arranging a group photo session.

All the music, rehearsal and all that stuff behind, coming up with a name is not as easy as one would think. I personally wanted a name that wouldn't limit the group size in the future and if people were to come and go. As much as I would be sad to see that happen, that's the nature of life. So the name had to be generic enough to handle these situations. Sure, we came up with some pretty funny names over the past few weeks (some never to be revealed!) but we finally settled on...

SWELL VOX

SWELL VOX meaning a play on the term "Swell Box" in relation to a division of the organ. Vox = voice. It could also be interpreted as "Great Voice" (1960s talk?). The funny thing about "Great" is that also refers to a particular organ division. Given that we have primarily been focussing on organ and vocal repertoire, this was a fitting name. What do you think?
