I got to know Steem in 2017 and was thrilled at the new discovery, so I signed up soon on Steemit. It took almost 2 weeks to get my new account approved, and due to such a long waiting time, I forgot my account name and failed in finding the email containing password. After I finally had my ID, nearly 1 month passed. The nightmare was not yet ending, as I had to deal with 4 passwords! As you can see, getting onboard Steem was not easy for me, but rather frustrating.
And later on when I was trying to sign up for my friends, I learned another way which is to purchase an account with STEEM or BTC. But after their accounts were approved, the steep learning curve still confused the new users. While in China, end users have long been signing up with their mobile phone numbers. They can easily log in with a verification code sent to their phone or with Wechat. The user experience is excellent.
Similar platforms in China like Bihu, QUNQUN and Biask have generated millions of traffic within one year. You might think the users’ accounts are controlled in a centralized way, but traditional internet users would need to embrace the blockchain world step by step. Blockchain technology is revolutionary, and the final qualitative change will only be caused by the gradual quantitative change.
As for Steem, we are trying to tackle the same issue by providing users the great experience they have been enjoying with the internet in China. We want to first onboard the large number of users, and then guide them in how to play on the platform such as handling the 4 different passwords.
Quick and Easy Sign-up & Sign-in
To achieve this goal, we have developed a new function for sign-up and sign-in. Users in China can sign up via their mobile phone number, verification code and Wechat Pay. They can log into Steem blockchain via phone number and verification code or phone number and password. We’ve been working on constantly improving users’ experience. Our next step is to develop a hosting system through which users can retrieve their password, cancel their login with phone number and verification code/password. By doing this, users can take a complete control of their accounts and data.
WhereIN team has developed the new sign-up and sign-in function as well as Whereinconnect (Hello,2019——WhereinConnect & WhereIN-activity) for the convenience of users in China. We are trying to build a channel for the public to access Steem blockchain with less time and hassle. We believe that Steem will only enjoy a constant and steady growth when the great majority’s quick and easy access is insured.
Our team is also working hard on supporting developing projects on Steem blockchain. In the future, WhereIN is going to build Layer 2 on the chain, to enable the easy entry of other content websites/App/mini programs and online/offline communities to the blockchain world.
