Have a look at the Raspberry Pi you can use Python or Node (it also has Scratch for real entry level) and is only $35 plus keyboard/mouse/sd card and just plug it into a TV.

Please do! I wish my son was into it. I have like 15 Raspberry Pi, a box of Arduino, but he has no interest. He's been playing with Lego Mindstorms more lately, but he doesn't get into the programming aspect, just building and using raw motor control.
I really want to get him into machine learning, but he has no interest in even basic programming.
Can I get that $18.99 link? Amazon?
