Hello and good morning fellow steemians, today I come upon you to share the recent research that has been done regarding to coffee.

It has always been debated whether or not, coffee is beneficial or detrimental to your health. Many people, still think that coffee and caffeine negatively affect your body and that you should strive to consume less coffee.

Well, I don't agree, coffee has several benefits to your health that may have never thought about and also the effects of caffeine are just amazing when you need to stay awake to study or work on a project, so let's get started with it!

The studies that I list are purely epidemiological, but the correlation between coffee drinking and the benefits is strong, so do your own judgement.

Coffee reduces risk for type 2 Diabetes1

Several studies with population as big as almost 200,000 people found out that those who drank 6 or 7 cups of coffee on a daily basis were 35% less likely to have type 2 Diabetes.
An Australian researcher when comparing several studies found a drop of 7% chance of getting diabetes for every cup of coffee drank.

That means if you drink 15 cups a day you get inmunity..... no just kidding it doesn't work like that.

But it does mean that drinking coffee is protective against type 2 diabetes, also decaffeinated coffee was found to prevent diabetes but on a lower level, so it could be that caffeine is responsible for that effect.

Also keep in mind that this means coffee without sugar or cream since adding those sugar-rich components eliminates the benefits.

Coffee lowers heart disease and stroke

Several studies found a decrease in the range of 15% to 20% of probability to have a stroke in the patients that consumed 1 to 3 cups of coffee daily. That could be correlated with the protective effect of diabetes type 2 since it increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Another one, the long term nurse's health study, found that there was a decrease of up to 20% in stroke probability among those who drank 2 or more cups of coffee a day, that pattern was constant even when taking other risk factors like Diabetes type 2, High blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Coffee is protective against Alzheimer's Disease1

One of coffee's most common benefits maybe is its decrease on the likeliness of having Alzheimer's disease, it has been widely proven by several studies.

A study done in Finland and Sweden over a 20 year span on 1400 people, found that those who drank 3-5 cups of coffee daily were 65% less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease and dementia compared to those who drank less or none at all.

Nutrition and exercise

A study found on the Journal of Pain discovered in a double blind placebo controlled manner, that coffee reduces post-workout muscle pain by up to 48%.

Coffee has almost no calories when it does not have any other additives and it promotes lipid metabolism by stimulating epinephrine effects and also increasing basal metabolism.

So for those of you looking to lose some weight, don't cut down on coffee since it will also give you more energy to exercise while improving you metabolism and fat burning capabilities.

A study on non-alcoholic fatty-liver disease found that caffeine directly increases B-oxidation, lipid's metabolic pathway, and reduces lipid accumulation in the liver.

Cancer

Several meta analysis have found that coffee seems to have a general protection against several types of cancer including colorrectal, prostate and specially liver cancer.

Caffeine seems to have an inverse relation with liver enzymes and also a protection factor against cirrhosis and hepatocellular cancer, the study points out that the findings could be related to decrease in consumption when these diseases are diagnosed but the information still remains unclear.

Nevertheless the meta analysis says that there is an overall small decrease in the probability of developing cancer among coffee drinkers.
