How To Clean Your Drip Coffee Maker

Well I don't know about you but I make coffee every day, in fact, last year I bought a coffee maker that has the clock and the timer. I love the timer. Nothing like waking up to the sound of coffee being made.

With that daily use comes some mineral buildup as well as oil buildup from the beans that can start to give an "off" flavor. No need to worry though, with just a few supplies that you probably have in your house you can have your coffee make running like a champ once again. So, without further ado, let's get started.

Supplies

Distilled white vinegar
Dish soap
Sponge
Damp kitchen towel

Process

  1. Empty and rinse the carafe and the filter basket.
  2. Fill your carafe halfway with the vinegar then fill it the rest of the way with water.
  3. Pour the mix into the water chamber. It is best to use a full carafe of the half and half solution.
  4. Start a brew cycle, but midway through turn off the coffee maker and let it sit for about an hour.
  5. After an hour, turn on the coffee maker and let the brew cycle finish.
  6. Discard the vinegar-water solution and run a fresh water cycle. Repeat this fresh water brew two more times, using new, fresh water each time.
  7. Lastly, wipe down your coffee maker with the damp cloth and wash the carafe and filter basket in hot, soapy water.

I usually do this once or twice a year and it seems to do the trick. Thanks for reading and happy drinking!
