
Carmichael College
Carmichael College is one of the traditional educational institutions in the country. It was established in Rangpur in 1917 and was named after Lord Baron Carmichael. Since its inception, this institution has been making a huge contribution to the education and culture of greater Rangpur. This college is affiliated to Bangladesh National University

The journey of Carmichael College was started in 1918 by Lord Baron Carmichael, the Governor of Bengal. Some of the top zamindars of Rangpur played an important role in the establishment. They raised Rs 850,000 for the construction of a college building on 300 acres of land. German citizen said. Watkin was the founding principal of the college. The college building is 610 feet long and 60 feet wide which is a unique example of zamindari architecture in the present Bangla division. Which reminds the rich history of Bengal of Mughal construction techniques. Carmichael College is affiliated to Calcutta University. Higher secondary and undergraduate courses in arts were introduced in 1918, higher secondary sciences in 1922 and undergraduate sciences in 1925. Until 1947 it was under Calcutta University. After the partition of the country, it was brought under the Dhaka University from 1947 and the newly established Rajshahi University in 1953, which remained until 1992. After the establishment of the National University, Carmichael College has been a part of the National University since 1992.
