Nothing to see here

in #colorado • 9 years ago (edited)

If you came here hoping to see something really cool because you thought “He wouldn’t say ‘Nothing to see here’ unless he was trying to hide the fact that there was actually something cool to see, right?”, then you are about to have your hopes for coolness crushed like marmots in a rockslide.

(LOL! That was a good one.)

Because there is literally nothing to see here. No snowboarders doing flips, nobody skiing behind a snowmobile in their underwear, no avalanches, explosions, bull moose fights, or anything really worth mentioning. Just a bunch of mountains and trees and snow in every direction. I can’t believe I wasted a whole Saturday climbing all the way up here to take this useless video. It was super windy and I got really bad windburn that stayed on my face for three days before it finally faded away. I almost got run over by a herd of elk on my way down. I hope you enjoy this useless video.

Are you curious to know more about all this nothing you’re looking at?

I took this video in Lake County, Colorado,

in very close proximity to Mt. Zion (12,126 feet) and not too far from Buckeye Peak (12,867 feet) and the one and only Ski Cooper, where I spent a lot of time wiping out on my way down the bunny hill as third-graders shredded black diamond slopes nearby. You can see the boring forgettable bump they call Mt. Zion at 14 seconds in the video.

Those peaks off in the distance at 7 seconds are the Mosquito Range. I’ve been all over that range and there’s not one damn mosquito over there. Talk about bad branding. I’ve never been so unhappy with a mountain range in my life.

Anyhow, what I’m really trying to say with all of this is that

I’m sorry for posting three times the other day,

I had no idea how DTube worked and I screwed it all up. But now I think I know how DTube works, and I won’t make that mistake again.

Sincerely,

Hello from the high Rockies of Colorado. My name is Brandt, pleased to meet you. I’m a marketing copywriter. I live in a little ghost town called Leadville. If you like mountains, snow, jokes, running, hiking, breathing, not working, etc., then you and I have a lot in common. Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely day!

That's a lot of snow. I feel cold just looking at it and hearing the wind in the background. I enjoyed reading this, you have a way with words. I also think you're funny so I nominated you for comedy open mic contest. Rules are here.

Thanks very much @take5, I'm happy you enjoyed it! Speaking of that contest … I've been meaning to submit an entry for, like, three weeks now. 😄 Maybe I'll get something in for Round 4?

Go for it. It will be good to see something from you.

Looks like my kind of place! Where is this at?

This is near Mt. Zion and Buckeye Peak in Lake County, Colorado. Close to Leadville. There's nothing to see there, though.

So that's what mountains look like when someone stands on one and looks around. Neat!

Yep! I highly recommend standing on a mountain and looking around sometime between now and the end of the world. It's super disappointing, you'll love it!

Where I live, it's so flat, you can watch your dog run away for three days.

That's the same amount of time that windburn stays on my face and makes me look like a mangy dog! What an interesting coincidence.
