Red Sand Beach in Maui, Hawaii
Color Challenge: Monday Red
This is one of the beaches on Maui in the east side of the island near Hana town. The name owes to the red sand on the beach. The water in front can be calm due to the underwater rocks that shield it from the brunt of the waves that come in, although on big wave days, the sea can get a bit rough.
On calm days, if you swim out to the edge, there's actually some underwater sea reef arches you can swim in. I've done it several times, but it can get quite dangerous as I've sometimes mis-timed my swim down and at times, have gotten sucked back into the hole when the current reverses.
