We had another bonding at Mactan Newtown Beach Resort, together with the IT members. To relax the mind and refresh it from SQL, C+, debugging etc....
In Mactan Island, a very popular resort has been restored.
This resort was originally called Mar y Cielo two decades ago.
The best view that will meet you at the reception was the beautifully designed swimming pool, with a tacobo or huge clam shaped with cascading water.
But when a fire incident happened, the resort has been closed. The damaged then hugely affected their business.
The resort was then became abandoned and dilapidated.
Then another personality acquired the said property and called it Portofino.
The new owner slowly repaired some clubhouses, gazebo and cottages. The seaside area has a wide beach line with white sands.
The resort still was not been restored to its original luster and beauty.
When it was officially opened for business, many tourists flocks the area.
Then when Mactan Newtown Center sprouted in Mactan Island, three years ago, a lot of development happened in the area. Purchased of the Portofino beach was also part on the acquisition of the property.
The purchase of that area is purposely done, to give the condominium owners a chance to enjoy the beauty of the resort.
Just last year, the Portofino was renamed to Mactan Newtown Beach Resort.
The resort has improved a lot. Though, everything is money. From entrance fee to corkage, cottage, tables and chair rentals to shower.
But in fairness, the resort is good for family gathering. It could be small in numbers or big family.
The cottages are pastel color coded. Everthing in the area has a lot of colorful accents.
From beach chairs, cottages, beach tables, directional signages, etc.
One good thing is, all cottages have free electricity. Also, if you missed to bring the necessary items, you can conveniently purchase it inside the resort or outside the resort. Shopwise and 7-Eleven approximately 1,000 meters.
A lot of cottages are built under the old trees. It gives more air and freshness in the area.
However, if your tent or cottage is located in front of the beach, it is quite humid.
The resort is safe for children to swim, and many personnel guarded and closely observed the guests who leisurely indulge swimming.
Also, a lot of resort personnel roam around to pick up your trash and attend guests need.
Aside from a swimming,there are a lot of activities to try, like jet ski, paddle board, flying fish, banana boat and henna tattoo.
Eat and chill are also are most imprtant.
If guests are running out of chilled beer, resort store has them for you.
Their cottages have different designs, like tent, pastel color coded cottage and lanai style bamboo cottage.
What I am dissapointed was there was lot og big flies buzzing in every cottage.
I guess bringing scented candle greatly helps drive away flies.
Getting there is so easy:
- From Mactan Economic Zone 1, board a multicab bound for Mactan Newtown, Soong, Maribago.
- Alight at corner of Angasil road, then hire motorcab parked there to bring you to the resort. Fare is only P60.
- If you have your private car, just enter directly in front of dolphin fountain, then just go straight ahead.
- At dead end, you will see a gate going to the resort.
- Please note, for you not get lost, just locate the Sto. Nino de Cebu Mactan parish. In front of the church gate is the entrance in going to the resort.
Entrance fees/Corkage:
- Entrance fee is Php 200 per person
- If you can present an ID as residence of Lapu Lapu City, discounted by Php50.
- Big tent cottage Php1,500
- Wooden cottage is Php 1,000
- Table rental Php 300
- Shower Php1
- Banana boat Php 300 per head
- Jet Ski Php 1,500 for 15 minutes
Please note: There are still a lot of different cottages with different prices.
So, I guess my dear Steemians, if you want to dip in the beach, try this resort.
