Yup. You're officially sick of this drawing. I feel you. I'm getting there too. It's all I've shown for a while.
To be fair though, it's actually been several different drawings. I've made this piece into my test vehicle as I grapple with figuring out some tools, processes, and the direction I want to take in my comic, "I Thought It Would Be Zombies..." I penciled it digitally. I re-penciled it traditionally. I started inking it traditionally. I inked it digitally. I'm a hot mess...
But like Dr. Strange once said, we're in the endgame now. (Go see Infinity War if you haven't!) I'm about to start working on some color flats before I turn in for the night. While I know I'll continue to fuss with the inked lines and add a bit more detail, it's pretty close to finished in that regard and I'm anxious to move on.

Here's a look at how I've been working on the same image using different tools. I was practicing both traditional ink methods using Micron pens, and also digitally inking in Procreate as well on an iPad Pro. As far as inking goes, I think Procreate claimed the victory.
So here it is in a modicum of glory, but I hope the colors will really help bring it to life.

And for comparison, the pencil image before application of any inks.

It's a laborious process for me, I am in no way a fast artist. Maybe my speed will improve with time, but I'd rather my quality improves while my speed remains the same!

Procreate's data capture is fascinating to me. I enjoy being able to see statistics! I worked on this off and on over the past two weeks, with the inking stage taking about 6 hours and entailing just over 4000 pen strokes! I've shared work in progress via Steepshot and even begun broadcasting some live streams as I work for anyone bored enough to follow along! I really appreciate all the supporters who do follow along and encourage, it's really a wonderful motivator for me. And there is so much further to go!
I'll post again soon, and like Dorothy stepping into the land of Oz for the first time, a wash of color will really bring the magic to life!
So cool to learn the details of your process. It is looking pretty awesome!
Dude! Very solid work. The lines on the car are so clean. I can’t wait to see color.
Thanks! Some of the long car lines on the fender & such bother me from being a bit wiggly... but I’m trying to let go of some perfectionism!
They have the perfect amount of wiggle. Unless your doing vector you’ll always have some jitter but that gives it a certain feel. I’m getting away from vector since I’ve been drawing on the iPad (at least until Affinity Designer is released) and I’m really enjoying the hand drawn line quality.
I haven’t even seen Black Panther yet. Clearly, my priorities need reshuffling.
I understand, there’s not enough hours in the day! This was possibly the first Marvel movie I saw opening weekend. I wanted to stay ahead of the spoilers!
Hello @bryan-imhoff
What's important is quality and not how fast one is at coming up with an artistic piece like this. You are perfectly a pro. Keep it up!
@eurogee
Good job! I know cars are like hands : super difficult to draw :-) And you drew it, from a difficult point of view... Congratulations :-)
I give full credit to using reference for that! Cars & hands both require a good reference model!
On Procreate, I knew about the capture time but never noticed the strokes made. I went through a few of my recent drawings and found out that I make between 4500-6500 strokes in a drawing. 🤯
Crazy isn’t it! I’ve gotta test now to see if undoing strokes rolls back the count or not. If it does, you can probably double our tallies after all the undo & redraw taps!
I do this with my paintings as well, draw it , sketch it, ink it, watercolour it, draw it again, put the figure in a new environment, etc. But I really love the process, so for me, even if I spend months on one piece, it's been done so many ways, it's like many pieces. Good job too, by the way.
I love dat hair whip haha.
also the dog
also all of it
Why so many spoilers of Infinity Wars? lol I like the thickness of the lines
