I'm working all digital, but I like a good traditional art board layer as my background. Since I started that way it just helps me visualize things better I guess!
I work at 600 dpi... but I also am working at traditional art board size of 10” by 15!” So when I scale down to comic size it actually makes my effective working resolution that much higher! It’s overkill honestly, but I like sharp clean lines as I work. I use Clip Studio which handles it well. In Procreate I worked at about 450 dpi to have access to a reasonable number of layers.
