Anybody who knew me growing up would know that Daredevil was one of my favorite Marvel characters, which fortunately wasn't influenced by Ben Afleck's portrayal. Picking up issue #29, or #641 for those that can really count, it is not surprising that our blind superhero is behind bars. After all, the villain previously known as the kingpin is now known as Mayor Fisk. Izzy Libris has taken over the Kingpin role for New York City.
To make matters even more confusing, Elektra has taken over the job to protect the citizens of Hell's Kitchen. She even wears a Daredevil-like mask! In prison with his mask on, Matt's twin brother Mike Murdock is posing as Matt. This issue begins with Daredevil's food being poisoned. His heightened sense of taste was able to detect something wrong with his meal, but not before the deadly substance had some effect. Thinking that the guard would lead him to the infirmary, it doesn't take long for him to realize that this whole mess is a setup. His clue? The number of inmates that surrounded him that were ready to kick the shit out of him.
Wanting to focus on the city and not lose another child in the process, Libris hands over Hell's Kitchen to Butch. Dante is the son that Libris wants to protect seeing how Tommy met his end. Meanwhile, Mike (the fake Matt) is trying to assist Butch with overthrowing Libris, especially since Butch believes he should have the Kingpin's job due to him being Wilson Fisk's son. Who knows what Fisk's endgame is, especially since the readers were introduced to the fact that the former Kingpin is involved in an experiment with Bullseye.
Daredevil fights valiantly back at the prison, but it eventually proves to be a little too much for even him to handle, especially when a knife is introduced into the action. Daredevil is out on the ground and the warden believes the framed hero to be dead. After all, that was the plan all along! It is a great story by Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto brought the action to life with his stellar artwork.
